The Lecture by Andriy Paramonov "Hryhorii Skovoroda and the Kovalevskyi Family" on the Birthday of the Ukrainian Philosopher
On December 3, 1722, in the village of Chornukhy, the renowned Ukrainian philosopher, thinker, theologian, and poet, Hryhorii Savych Skovoroda, was born.
As the graduate of Karazin University, Mykola Kostomarov, wrote about Hryhorii Savych: "Few such popular figures can be pointed to, as was Skovoroda, whom the people remember and respect so much. Throughout the region from Ostrogozk to Kyiv, his portraits hang in many homes. His wandering life is the subject of stories and legends..."
Indeed, the life of Hryhorii Skovoroda remains shrouded in legends and Soviet myths. We know that the second half of Hryhorii Savych’s life was closely connected with Kharkiv, Slobozhanshchyna, and there is also a link between the philosopher and Karazin University, which was not yet established during his lifetime.
The life of Hryhorii Savych, the Kovalevskyi and Karazyn families, was discussed by Andriy Paramonov, a local historian and expert on the biography of Hryhorii Skovoroda. Andriy’s interest in the philosopher’s life began within the walls of Karazin University. Symbolically, on the philosopher’s birthday, the lecture was held at the university.
Each attendee received a Skovorodyniv Guide to Ukrainian estates — a brochure highlighting the routes the thinker traveled. Anyone interested can explore them on the website and visit the places that Hryhorii Savych passed through.
Soon, Andriy Paramonov’s lecture "Hryhorii Skovoroda and the Kovalevskyi Family" will be available on the official YouTube channel of the university, so stay tuned for our updates!
