Lecture by Andreas Schleicher on the Future of Education: Challenges and New Skills Discussed at Karazin University

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University became a platform for an important discussion on the future of education and the challenges faced by educators worldwide.
The university hosted a meeting with Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General of the OECD, who shared his vision of key trends in the development of education in the 21st century.
In his lecture, the speaker emphasized that modern educational institutions must prepare students not only for a profession, but above all for life. Education is becoming a space for cultivating critical thinking, creativity, resilience to stress, and the ability to collaborate. He paid special attention to the role of the teacher/lecturer as a mentor and facilitator, helping students to develop humanity in an era of rapid technological advancement and artificial intelligence.
“The quality of education is determined not only by knowledge or funding, but above all by the quality of relationships between students and teachers,” stressed Andreas Schleicher.
He also addressed the challenges facing the Ukrainian education system in times of war. Despite the difficult circumstances, Ukrainian schoolchildren and students demonstrate remarkable flexibility and readiness for change, which, according to the expert, is an important prerequisite for the country’s future development.
