On October 10, World Mental Health Day, the School of Psychology of Karazin University hosted the event “A Touch of Support” — a meeting designed to bring together students, lecturers, and practitioners around the ideas of mutual support, professional solidarity, and care for mental well-being.

The goal of the meeting was to listen to and support one another, learn how psychologists work in the real conditions of a frontline city, get acquainted with colleagues, and thank them for their daily work, resilience, and humanity.

The Dean of the School of Psychology, Nadiia Kreidun, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of unity within the psychological community during challenging times.

Among the invited guests were representatives of the Psychological Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Psychological Service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. The first speakers shared their experience working with topics such as positive and negative stress, acute stress reactions, and methods of helping people in crisis situations. Students once again discussed the types of stress and received practical advice from professionals on providing rapid psychological assistance to victims.

Employees of the Psychological Service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, who work in areas of active hostilities and at sites of missile strikes, assisting pyrotechnicians and rescuers, spoke about their daily challenges and routines, as well as how they find resources for their own recovery.

Future psychologists had the opportunity to ask the guests questions about the specifics of working in emergency situations, to learn more about the peculiarities of the profession, and to hear real cases from their professional experience.

At the end of the event, everyone could undergo a quick “check-up” — to assess their physical and mental state and receive advice on maintaining psychological well-being.
