The Kharkiv International Skovoroda Readings on "Metaphysics of the Heart in Ukrainian and Western European Philosophy"
On December 3, 2023, the traditional XXXI Kharkiv International Skovoroda Readings on "Metaphysics of the Heart in Ukrainian and Western European Philosophy" took place at Karazin University, dedicated to the 301st anniversary of the birth of Hryhoriy Skovoroda.
The organizers of the readings were the G. S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, National Literary and Memorial Museum of G. S. Skovoroda, and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The opening remarks to the participants were delivered by the Acting Rector, Oleksandr Holovko, the Director of the Department of Science and Education of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Olga Bezpalova, the Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Eduard Pavlenko, the Director of the G. S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Anatoliy Yermolenko, the Director of the National Literary and Memorial Museum of G. S. Skovoroda, Natalia Mytsai, and the Dean of the School of Philosophy at Karazin University, Ivan Karpenko.
The readings were attended by scholars from 12 regions of Ukraine who discussed the main directions of the event, including Hryhoriy Skovoroda and the war in Ukraine, Hryhoriy Skovoroda as the founder of Ukrainian cordocentrism, the formation and development of Ukrainian cordocentrism, the study of the philosophy of the heart in domestic historical and philosophical science, and the "metaphysics of the heart" in European philosophy.
Additionally, participants in the readings called on the broader public to support the campaign "301 Skovoroda's True Friend," the goal of which is to raise funds for the preservation and conservation of the National Literary and Memorial Museum of G. S. Skovoroda, which was destroyed by a direct hit of a Russian missile.
