Karazin Representatives Participate in the Meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

On May 28, a regular meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was held. Among other issues, the agenda included the topic “Synergy of Experimental and Theoretical Plasma Physics Research on the Path to Thermonuclear Energy.”

To discuss this topic, the Presidium invited Igor Garkusha, Head of the Department of Applied Physics and Plasma Physics of the Education and Research Institute "School of Physics and Technology," Deputy Director General of the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” (NSC KIPT), and Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, as well as Igor Girka, Professor of the same department and Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine.

In his speech, Igor Garkusha emphasized the importance of experimental research in plasma physics and controlled thermonuclear fusion being carried out at the Plasma Physics Institute of the NSC KIPT.

Igor Girka highlighted the catastrophic decline in the number of applicants to master’s programs in natural sciences and stressed the urgent need for immediate and effective action at the state level to preserve engineering and physics education in Ukraine.
