On April 4–5, 2025, a two-day in-person intensive training titled “Developing the Professional Identity of a Teacher in Response to Societal Transformations” took place in Kyiv for future educators.

The event, organized by the Education and Reserach Institute “Teaching Academy,” brought together students who are just beginning their professional journey but already recognize the vital role of a teacher in modern society.

The training began with a session led by Vice-Rector Liliia Hrynevych. It was an open and meaningful conversation about values, the mission of a teacher in uncertain times, and the essence of the “New Ukrainian School” reform.

The event's rich program included practical sessions based on the Teaching Academy’s core courses, such as:

  • “Creating an Inclusive Environment in Education” by Maryna Krisov, Head of the International Inclusion Foundation (IIF);

  • “A Teacher’s Personal Brand as a Tool for Communication and Leadership in Education” by Tetiana Datsenko, PhD in Psychology;

  • “The Art of Providing Initial Psychological Support in the Educational Process” by Tetiana Holovatenko, PhD;

  • An interactive workshop “Developing Social-Emotional Soft Skills Using Scaffold Cards” by Olha Vyhovska, PhD in Political Science, and Tetiana Holovatenko, PhD;

  • “National Identity and Family History: Why It’s Important to Know More About Your Roots” by Hryhorii Rii, PhD;

  • Interactive exercises aimed at team-building, enhancing cooperation among participants, and boosting engagement, facilitated by Yevheniia Fadieieva, a specialist at the Teaching Academy.

In addition to the educational component, students traditionally took part in the cultural program. A walking tour of Kyiv with Ruslan Kutsyk was a great opportunity to explore the history of the capital, see its architectural landmarks, and learn more about key events in the country’s past.

The play “The Wave”, based on the novel by Todd Strasser, performed at the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theater, left no one indifferent. It prompted deep reflection on the fine line between influence and pressure, choice and imitation, and the immense responsibility a teacher bears toward their students.

Karazin University continues to create opportunities for preparing a new generation of educators who will transform Ukrainian education for the better!
