Karazin Impresses: The Discovery of Physicist Lev Landau

27 may 2025 year

Karazin University has always been a place that brought together exceptional individuals. Among them is one of the most brilliant physicists of the 20th century and Nobel Prize laureate — Lev Landau.

He worked on the development of quantum theory and low-temperature physics.

It was in Kharkiv that Landau revealed his unique gift for synthesizing theories, managing to combine deep mathematical abstractions with concrete physical phenomena. He developed the theory of second-order phase transitions, which became a benchmark in the scientific world.

Thanks to his work, the legendary multi-volume Course of Theoretical Physics was created — a series still studied worldwide today.

In January 2014, Karazin University established the LandauCentre, named in honor of the scientist, to stimulate and revive interest in science.

Lev Landau not only brought international recognition to Ukraine but also left behind a legacy that remains relevant and inspiring to this day.
