Karazin Impresses: Home to One of the Oldest Museums in Europe

Did you know that Karazin University is home to one of the oldest museums in Europe?
We’re talking about the Museum of Nature. April 2, 1807, is the official founding date of the museum.
Following the opening of the university in Kharkiv, the Trustee of the Kharkiv Educational District, Count Severyn Potocki, purchased a collection of foreign artifacts from Hannover pharmacist Gruner — items originally gathered by Professor André. In 1807, he also acquired a zoological collection from the Italian naturalist Chetti. These collections arrived in Kharkiv on April 2, 1807, marking the official beginning of the museum.
The museum’s exhibits are displayed across 23 halls, and the collection consists of 250,000 specimens.
We believe that after our Victory, the museum will welcome many more visitors.
