Karazin University Hosts Professional Development Courses for Teachers
Starting 12 March 2026, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University launched professional development courses for teachers at the Institute of Continuing Education. The program brings together teachers of primary school, mathematics (including algebra, algebra and introductory calculus, and geometry), history, physics and astronomy, and physical rehabilitation/therapeutic physical education from gymnasiums and lyceums of the Industrialnyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts of the Kharkiv City Council, as well as educators from Zlatopil, Merefa, and the Zmiiv territorial community in the Kharkiv region.
Leading academic staff and practitioners are involved in teaching the courses. Among them are co-authors of school textbooks and preparation materials for the National Multi-Subject Test (Ukraine), as well as members of subject Olympiad juries from the following departments:
-
the Department of History of Ukraine and the Department of Ancient and Medieval History of the Faculty of History;
-
the Department of Experimental Physics and the Department of Astronomy and Space Informatics of the School of Physics;
-
the Department of Fundamental Mathematics and the Department of Applied Mathematics of the School of Mathematics and Informatics.
The program also involves external partners and stakeholders — trainers, supervisors, and practicing teachers — from municipal institutions “Kharkiv Lyceum No. 28 of the Kharkiv City Council” and “Inclusive Resource Center No. 1 of the Kharkiv City Council.”
During the training, participants will receive up-to-date scientific information about recent discoveries and innovations in their respective fields. They will also develop competencies for integrating scientific advances into the educational process and acquire the necessary knowledge to effectively prepare senior secondary school students for the National Multi-Subject Test in relevant subjects.
Special attention will be given to formative assessment methods, particularly in the context of group learning, which often presents challenges in real teaching practice. Participants will also take part in lessons and practical classes conducted in “Metro School” classrooms, an educational format adapted to wartime conditions.
The opening session, led by Mykhailo Tatarinov, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education, focused on safety briefings related to life and work during martial law, an overview of the course schedule, and strategies for addressing potential challenges such as power outages (blackouts). Participants were also introduced to the format of final mini-presentation projects and to options for blended learning, including both synchronous and asynchronous modes.
Teachers received answers to key questions related to the specifics of professional development at Karazin University. They were also informed about the Open Day at the university scheduled for 22 March 2026 and invited to attend together with their students and their parents.
The educational process of the courses will continue until 27 March 2026 and 9 April 2026, depending on the professional requests and specializations of the participating teachers.
