Karazin University Participates in the Event "Universities in the Ecosystem 'How Are You?'"

2 april 2025 year

On March 31, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska met with representatives from 30 higher education institutions participating in the nationwide mental health program "How Are You?" The event brought together rectors, vice-rectors, and student self-governance leaders to discuss support for students and university staff.

During the meeting, experts from "How Are You?" presented findings from a February survey conducted among university communities. The results revealed that one in three professors shows signs of hidden burnout, while almost half of the students require interventions of varying intensity. Participants emphasized the importance of continuing to expand psychological support services within universities. Currently, 97% of higher education institutions in Ukraine already have functioning psychological support services.

Olena Zelenska highlighted:
"Previously, higher education institutions were primarily about knowledge. But under the survival conditions we face today, they are about preserving students — both physically and mentally. This is why mental health care must be embedded into university life — not only at the academic level through programs and disciplines but also at the ethical level, fostering humanity and sensitivity toward one another."

During the event, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University was honored with an award from the "How Are You?" mental health program! Additionally, the university, alongside: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", O. O. Bohomolets National Medical University, Ukrainian Catholic University, announced the creation of a consortium aimed at developing a new scientific cluster aligned with modern approaches to mental health.

We continue working together to support the mental well-being of the Karazin community and university networks across Ukraine!
