Karazin University Hosted the Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster Workshop

26 september 2025 year

On September 24–25, 2025, Karazin University hosted a two-day workshop of the Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster (FSLC), dedicated to preparing the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for Ukraine. The FSLC operates under the leadership of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP). For the university, it is a great honor to host FSLC representatives, as this cooperation is not only symbolic but also highly practical.

Over the past three years, joint efforts have led to the organization of the First and Second Kharkiv Food Forums (2023, 2024), which became an important platform for dialogue between government, academia, civil society, and representatives of key UN structures. In addition, this partnership was implemented through the international research project “FUSILLI — Fostering the Urban Food System Transformation through Innovative Living Labs Implementation”, carried out in 2021–2024 within the framework of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program.

Karazin University has repeatedly served as a venue for meetings of the Subnational Cluster at the regional level. We are always open to cooperation and are delighted to welcome partners within the walls of our university. Hosting this workshop is a vivid confirmation of that.

As part of the workshop, acknowledgments from FSLC for assistance in organizing the event were presented to University Rector Tetyana Kaganovska, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Borys Samorodov, Acting Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Sociology and Media Communications Olena Muradian, and Associate Professor of the Department of Political Sociology Ruslan Zaporozhchenko.
