The Rector of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Tetyana Kaganovska, was part of the Ukrainian delegation that took part in a series of working meetings with representatives of Germany and Poland. The Ukrainian side was headed by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Denys Kurbatov and President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Karazin University, Anatolii Zahorodnii.

On September 11, the Embassy of Germany in Poland hosted the 15th meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-German Working Group on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, where both countries presented updates on their science and innovation policies and discussed the progress of joint projects under the Horizon Europe program. One of the decisions made was to transform this working group, which has been active since 1993, into a Joint Commission on Science, Technology, Innovation, and Higher Education in accordance with the Agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and Germany. In addition, the German partners announced the allocation of 110 million euros to support Ukrainian science and innovation until 2027.

On September 12, a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Germany, and Poland was held at the Polish Academy of Sciences. The parties focused on the modernization and restoration of research infrastructure, the creation of new opportunities for students and young scientists, support for the Ukrainian scientific diaspora, and the preparation of consortia for participation in Horizon Europe. On the same day, Denys Kurbatov held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Poland Andrzej Szeptycki, during which they agreed to resume the bilateral competition of Ukrainian-Polish research projects and confirmed Poland’s participation in the International Coalition for the Support of Science, Research, and Innovation in Ukraine.

On September 13, a dialogue with the Foundation “Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora in Poland” was held in Warsaw, where participants discussed support for displaced Ukrainian scientists and the idea of launching the “International Science Ambassador” initiative. There was also a meeting of university rectors from Ukraine, Poland, and Germany, initiated by the German Rectors’ Conference, which focused on the prospects for academic exchanges, double degree programs, and joint projects.

For Karazin University, participation in these meetings opens up new opportunities for integration into international scientific projects, attracting grant funding, and developing partnerships with European higher education institutions and research centers. This is an important step towards strengthening the position of Ukrainian science and education.
