Two hundred and twenty years ago, in the heart of Slobozhanshchyna, a historic event took place — the establishment of the center for science, education, and culture that changed the course of history and played a crucial role in making Kharkiv the educational capital of Ukraine. V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is more than just walls; it is a magnificent history, written with the wisdom, dedication, and inspiration of many generations.
Since its founding in 1804 at the initiative of the great enlightener Vasyl Nazarovych Karazin and its official opening in 1805, the university has become a beacon of knowledge for all of Ukraine. It was here that groundbreaking discoveries were made — from early advancements in physics and chemistry to cutting-edge technologies and innovations. Karazin University has been home to luminaries whose names are synonymous with global progress —mathematician Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi, biologist Illia Mechnikov, chemist Mykola Beketov, historian Dmytro Bahalii, physicist Lev Landau, and many more.
Throughout its long history, Karazin University has undergone many transformations. Yet, its greatest treasure has always remained its people —professors, staff, students, and alumni — each of whom has contributed a unique chapter to the university’s legacy. This is a community that not only shapes its own history but also influences the future of the entire nation. Today, Karazin students, faculty, and graduates exemplify unity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
220 years is not just a number — it is a testament to the university’s strength, standing firm even in the most challenging times. Karazin University has endured wars, revolutions, and contemporary challenges, always remaining steadfast in its mission — to be a center of educational and cultural excellence.
Congratulations to the thousands of members of the Karazin University community! May our university continue to thrive for centuries to come, and may each of you take pride in being part of this great family. May your dedication, inspiration, and knowledge continue to enhance Karazin’s legacy, while your dreams and ambitions lead to new heights.
Let us cherish our traditions, build upon our achievements, and always remember: we are the heart and soul of our legendary university.
