On October 21, 2025, for the community of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Professor Ferenc Krausz delivered a lecture titled “From Attosecond Physics to Infrared Molecular Identification: Shaping the Future of Preventive Medicine” and officially received the diploma of Honorary Professor of Karazin University.

Ferenc Krausz is a physicist, Director of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, and Professor of Experimental Physics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. Together with a team of scientists, he generated and measured the first attosecond light pulse and used it to observe the behavior of electrons in atoms, thus founding attosecond physics. For this groundbreaking achievement, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2023.

Today, Ferenc Krausz is one of the most influential scientists of our time, whose work has defined a new field in the fundamental study of matter and light. His authority and scientific discoveries are recognized worldwide, and his name stands among the leading figures in global science. The scholar is also a sincere friend of Ukraine, who has repeatedly expressed his support for the Ukrainian people. He donated his Nobel Prize money to help Ukrainian children affected by the war and, during his previous visit to Karazin University, read a joint statement by Nobel laureates calling for the transfer of sanctioned Russian state assets to rebuild Ukraine and compensate for the damages caused by the war.

Professor Krausz’s lecture focused on the interdisciplinary potential of attosecond methods and their contribution to the development of infrared molecular identification, which holds direct significance for future approaches in preventive medicine. The presented material was recognized as highly relevant to the university’s academic community and promising for future scientific cooperation.

During the ceremonial part of the event, Vice-Rector Borys Samorodov presented Professor Krausz with the diploma of Honorary Professor as a sign of recognition of his scientific achievements and significant contribution to academic dialogue.

“Your acceptance of this title, Professor Krausz, means a great deal to us. It is more than a formal distinction. It symbolizes solidarity, shared values, and your faith in the potential of Ukrainian science and education. It sends a clear message to our students and faculty: our voices matter, we are part of the global academic family, and excellence knows no borders,” — emphasized the Vice-Rector.

The fruitful cooperation between Professor Krausz and the university community is focused on advancing modern scientific research and strengthening systems of academic mobility.

Karazin University expresses its sincere gratitude to Professor Ferenc Krausz for sharing world-class knowledge, experience, and support with Ukrainian scientists, educators, and students. This event also demonstrates the university’s commitment to enhancing international cooperation and integrating cutting-edge global research into the educational process and Ukrainian science, opening new opportunities for joint projects that promote the development of global science and education.
