From June 3 to 23, 2025, Yevhen Zakharchenko, Associate Professor at the Department of Ukrainian History, School of History, participated in a three-week research residency at the University of Warsaw (Republic of Poland). This residency took place within the framework of the Ukrainian-Polish project titled "I survived the Nazis, I will survive the Rashists: World War II and the Holocaust in Ukrainian Discourse on the Russian-Ukrainian War", in collaboration with Dr. Paweł Dobrosielski, Associate Professor at the Institute of Polish Culture, University of Warsaw.
The project aims to study the representations of memory related to the Holocaust and World War II, which were used by a wide range of users in the Ukrainian segment of social media in 2022 to describe the events of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. The project's overall source base includes over 65,000 digital records. During the three-week collaboration, the researchers worked on developing the research methodology and coding of mass digital sources.
The project is financially supported by the “For Ukraine” programme of the Foundation for Polish Science (Warsaw, Republic of Poland).
