On the Occasion of the Day of Heroes: Karazin University Honours Ukraine’s Shield

Every May, Ukraine pays tribute to those who have given their lives, freedom, and peace for the sake of our nation’s independence. The Day of Heroes is not just a date on the calendar — it is a living memory that aches, inspires, and obliges. For Karazin University, this memory holds a special significance.
Among our students, alumni, and faculty are those who stand at the frontlines today. They are people of science, research, and the humanities who have risen to defend their land. In the column “Karazinites on the Line of Fire,” we share their stories — sincere, sometimes painful, but always filled with strength. These are testimonies of the fire in their hearts that does not fade, even under shelling.
And we remember. The university website hosts a virtual memorial that gathers the names of fallen Karazinites — each name a world cut short by war. Each is a separate story of dignity, courage, and self-sacrifice. Their memory is forever engraved in the history of the university and in the hearts of the Karazin community. Their heroism is a moral compass in times of hardship, an example of boundless love for the Motherland that inspires us to fight, to study, and to live with dignity.
Today, Karazin University bows its head to its Heroes — to those who are fighting, and to those who are no longer with us, but will forever remain with Ukraine.
Glory to the Heroes!
