For Physical Culture and Sports Day, the "Univer GYM" was opened at Karazin University

15 september 2024 year

Traditionally, on the second Saturday of September, Ukraine celebrates Physical Culture and Sports Day. This holiday is important for promoting a healthy lifestyle, physical activity, and sports among Ukrainians. Karazin University wholeheartedly joins in the congratulations on this occasion!

Symbolically, today Karazin community members and distinguished guests gathered for the grand opening ceremony of the new sports hall, "Univer GYM," in the main university building.

Univer GYM is an athletics and martial arts sports club of the Karazin National Sports Center (NSC). It will become the heart of sports life for Karazin students, faculty, and city residents, where they can develop their physical abilities, achieve new heights, and win both in sports and in life. Univer GYM features a modern cardio zone, a range of professional TechnoGym equipment, crossfit and workout areas, and a martial arts zone.

The journey to restore the sports hall was challenging but essential. In March 2022, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the russians destroyed the sports club. However, we understand that we must revive sports here and now, without waiting for the war to end. Together with our partners, we focused all efforts on bringing sports life back to Karazin University and Kharkiv.

Speeches were delivered by:

  • Rector Tetyana Kaganovska;
  • Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Kostiantyn Ananchenko;
  • Director of the Department for Family, Youth, and Sports of the Kharkiv City Council, Oleksandr Vlasenko;
  • Deputy Head of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in Kharkiv Region, Viktor Khristoev;
  • President of the National Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) of Ukraine, Serhii Samoilenko;
  • Director of the NSC "Karazin" Athletics and Martial Arts Sports Club, Honored Coach of Ukraine in MMA, and Vice President of the National Federation of MMA of Ukraine, Anton Blank;
  • Head of the Kharkiv Regional Bodybuilding Federation IFBB, Ukrainian National Team Coach, Master of Sports in Arm Wrestling, and International Category Judge, Viktor Kozhushko.

During the opening ceremony, certificates of appreciation were presented to the partners who made this event possible. For their significant personal contributions to the creation of this hall and the development of the sports community in Kharkiv, Karazin University extends its heartfelt gratitude to:

  • Serhii Samoilenko, Director of the "World Athletes Union" Charity Foundation and President of the National Federation of MMA of Ukraine;
  • Oleh Rozhkevych, public figure;
  • Maksym Prykhodko, owner of the "KD GYM" sports club network;
  • Oleh Poliarush, head of "Everest Construction LLC";
  • Oleh Synelnyk, CEO of "StalMax" company.

The university is also grateful to the "BarStylers" team, as well as Daria Dmytruk and Yehor Aleinikov for their wonderful performances at the end of the ceremony.
