The Day of Human Responsibility in Ukraine
This year, Ukraine will celebrate the Day of Human Responsibility, officially established on July 16, 2021, when the Resolution "On the Establishment of the All-Ukrainian Day of Human Responsibility" was adopted.
The goal of this day is to call for a reevaluation of responsibility as a fundamental value for every individual, which contributes to improving personal life and fostering the effective development of communities, cities, countries, and the world.
Ukraine is the first country in the world to mark the Day of Human Responsibility at the national level.
The date was chosen deliberately: October 19 is the birthday of an outstanding Ukrainian visionary, co-founder of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and head of the International Institute of Management in Geneva, Bohdan Havrylyshyn.
The core value of this day is based on the Declaration of Human Responsibility, created by Bohdan Havrylyshyn in 2014. According to Professor Havrylyshyn, awareness and acceptance of individual responsibility by every member of society at all levels should be one of the prerequisites for fulfilling the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1948.
The Declaration of Human Responsibility outlines 15 points about responsibility on a personal and interpersonal level, concerning one’s city, country, and the world. These points serve as guiding principles for building a more democratic, inclusive, and effective society based on humanistic values.
"Democracy is both a gift and a great responsibility. It is not just about rights but also responsibility. We are very proud that our father decided to emphasize this," said Bohdan Havrylyshyn's daughter, Khrystyna Havrylyshyn-Batrukh.
How to Participate?
Last year, the Day of Human Responsibility was supported and communicated on social media by major Ukrainian brands, including OKKO, Kormotech, SoftServe, Halychyna, Old Lion Publishing House, Fishka, and others.
This year, the Bohdan Havrylyshyn Family Foundation continues to promote the ideas and principles of human responsibility among Ukrainian society and internationally.
Everyone is invited to familiarize themselves with the Declaration of Human Responsibility, particularly through the creative interpretation by Pictoric illustrators. This offers a new perspective on responsibility as part of our daily actions. You are also encouraged to complete one or several responsible actions from this checklist.
Let's unite! Let's engage! This is our responsibility today!
