Sociologist’s Day: Karazin Community Celebrates

1 october 2026 year

Every year on 1 October, Ukraine celebrates Sociologist’s Day. This occasion holds special significance for V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, as our University is the birthplace of academic sociology in Ukraine and a centre where modern standards for researching social processes are shaped.

Karazin University remains a leading centre of sociological thought in Ukraine. It was within our walls that Ukraine’s first specialised Department of Sociology was established in 1990, followed by the country’s first School of Sociology. Over the decades, Karazin sociologists have developed robust methodological approaches to studying sociocultural change, shifts in public opinion and social transformations. The research and analytical reports produced by our scholars serve as valuable references for government institutions, international organisations and civil society. Sociology is an important pillar of support for the state and the public, helping identify citizens’ actual needs and inform well-grounded decisions.

Today, these outstanding traditions are carried forward by the Education and Research Institute of Sociology and Media Communications. It is a modern educational and research hub where classical theoretical knowledge is combined with practical skills in new media, digital analytics, and PR technologies.

Congratulations to the Karazin sociological community on its professional holiday!
