The Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide and the Day of Struggle for the Rights of the Crimean Tatar People
Every year on May 18, Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide and the Day of Struggle for the Rights of the Crimean Tatar People.
Today, the whole world remembers the terrible events of 1944, when, on the orders of the leaders of the totalitarian regime, Crimean Tatars were forcibly deported to remote regions, along with representatives of other national minorities.
We honor the memory of the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous population of the Crimean peninsula and one of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine, who died as a result of forced deportation. These events are recognized as genocide of the Crimean Tatar people
After Russia's treacherous occupation of Crimea in the spring of 2014, May 18 is also celebrated as the Day of Struggle for the Rights of the Crimean Tatar People.
On February 24, 2022, a new wave of Russian invasion of Ukraine began, which became a new reason for searches, arrests and continued persecution of Crimean Tatars.
Now, Russia continues to forcibly relocate Ukrainians from the occupied and destroyed settlements of Ukraine, regardless of their nationality and origin, effectively continuing the genocide of the Ukrainian people. We have stopped this invasion and will destroy every enemy who has encroached on our land.
On May 19, on the occasion of the Day of Science and the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide, Karazin University will host a discussion of scientists and world opinion leaders to discuss science, the genocide of the Crimean Tatars, the history of genocides around the world, the Holocaust and its victims, etc.
We honor and remember!
