Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of Kruty: The University Pays Tribute

On 29 January, Ukraine commemorates the Heroes of Kruty — young defenders of the Ukrainian People’s Republic who, in 1918, stood up for Ukrainian statehood near the Kruty railway station. This event has become one of the enduring symbols of sacrifice, civic responsibility, and a conscious choice in favour of Ukraine’s freedom and independence.

The battle of Kruty involved military cadets, university students, and gymnasium pupils. Most of them were very young, yet their actions demonstrated a high level of national awareness and a willingness to defend the Ukrainian people’s right to their own state.
