Groundhog Day: Tymko III Predicts an Early Spring
Today, we once again celebrate the traditional February holiday associated with predicting the arrival of spring. However, this year, due to various circumstances, the announcement of the forecast took place remotely.
The unusually warm winter has greatly affected the marmots, who have already woken up. Moreover, constant ground tremors caused by nearby shelling in the frontline zone have prevented them from falling into a deep sleep. For the third year in a row, these animals are living under stressful conditions and cannot fully hibernate.
Karazin University’s forecasting marmot, Tymko III, is also awake and quite active. In such a state, traveling to the university's biological station in Haidary would be extremely dangerous for him. Therefore, Tymko made his prediction about the arrival of spring this year directly from his home — the steppe biological station in the Velykoburluk community of the Kupiansk district.
Today, near Karazin University’s main building, university scientists, zoologists, and ecologists shared Tymko III’s spring forecast.
The head of Karazin University’s biological station, Volodymyr Hrubnyk, interpreted the marmot’s prediction:
"This year, spring never really left. It is here and will stay, but we may still see some light frosts, and a thin layer of snow could cover the ground."
We believe that this spring will not only be warm but also filled with joyful news, and that next year, we will all wake Tymko under a peaceful Ukrainian sky!
