The Fourth Anniversary of Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine
24 February 2022 is a date that forever changed the course of Ukrainian history. Four years ago, Russia’s full-scale invasion became a trial for each and every one of us. For the university community, these years have been marked by loss and pain, but also by unprecedented resilience, solidarity, and collective strength.
V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University marks the fourth anniversary of the war as a university that withstood shelling, preserved its academic community, and continued the educational process and scientific research even during the most difficult months. Despite the destruction and damage to some of its buildings and the constant security challenges, Karazin University has proven that true strength lies in people, in knowledge, and in responsibility to the country.
Over these years, thousands of students have continued their studies in online and blended formats, lecturers have implemented new digital solutions, and researchers have focused on studies addressing the challenges of wartime — from medicine and psychological support to infrastructure recovery and international law. Karazin University has become part of a global academic solidarity network, expanded its partnerships, and strengthened Ukraine’s international presence in the global scientific community.
We bow our heads in memory of the Karazin community members — students, alumni, lecturers, and staff — who gave their lives defending Ukraine. Their names, stories, and acts of bravery are preserved in the virtual memorial to fallen Karazin members created on the university’s official website.
Today, Karazin is not only an educational institution. It is a space where the future of the country is being shaped — through education, science, culture, and civic engagement.
Four years of struggle have proven that a university is more than walls.
It is values, traditions, and memory.
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to our Heroes and Heroines!
