221st Anniversary of the Solemn Opening of Karazin University

221 years ago, a university was solemnly opened in Kharkiv that would later become one of Ukraine’s key intellectual pillars. Today, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University marks another anniversary under circumstances that require not only professionalism, but also resilience, unity, and a deep sense of responsibility for its mission.

Despite all the challenges faced by the country and the frontline city of Kharkiv, Karazin University remains a living, active, and responsible space of knowledge. Teaching and learning continue here; research is conducted; international projects are implemented; mutual support is strengthened; and the future is approached with faith in the power of education and science. The University did not stop — it adapted, united, and continued to fulfill its mission.

The 221-year history of Karazin University is, above all, a story of people. Of faculty members and researchers who uphold high academic standards. Of students who choose education even in the most difficult times. Of staff members whose daily efforts ensure that the University functions as a cohesive whole.
