The Competition for Third-cycle (PhD) to Participate in the CAPABLE Project — Common Academic Practices and Abilities in Learning for Research
Within the project being implemented at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Ecology of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the Baltic University Programme (The Baltic University Programme) announces a competition for third-cycle (PhD) education participants to take part in the CAPABLE project — Common Academic Practices and Abilities in Learning for Research.
The main component of the CAPABLE 2024 project is a training program for PhD candidates, consisting of three parts:
- Series of online seminars;
- Conference for PhD candidates in Uppsala;
- Online course on academic pedagogy.
The Baltic University Programme does not award ECTS credits for this training, but upon completion, participants will receive a certificate equivalent to 4 ECTS credits.
The aim of the CAPABLE project is to enhance knowledge and skills, as well as provide an opportunity to network with colleagues among PhD candidates pursuing degrees at BUP member universities and working on topics related to sustainable development relevant to the Baltic region. Enrolled PhD candidates will receive mentoring support and feedback on their dissertations, as well as training in academic writing, preparing scientific presentations, critical thinking, research conclusions, and more.
The project is funded by the Swedish Institute and the Baltic University Programme.
The series of online seminars (September - November 2024, Zoom platform) will cover the following topics:
- academic writing;
- preparation of online/offline scientific presentations;
- research methods, innovation and startups, methodology of preparing scientific articles; \research in landscape restoration and ecological sustainability, practical experience.
Conference for PhD candidates in Uppsala
Enrolled PhD candidates will receive invitations to participate in a four-day conference at Uppsala University, during which they will have the opportunity to present their research and listen to presentations by leading experts in their fields. Participants' expenses for accommodation, meals, and transportation will be reimbursed. The preliminary conference program can be found at this link.
Online course on academic pedagogy for third-cycle (PhD) education participants
All enrolled PhD candidates will have the opportunity to take an online course in higher education pedagogy. The course will be taught during the spring semester of 2025 and will include both online lectures and seminars.
