International Mother Language Day

21 february 2024 year

International Mother Language Day is a celebration of our awareness of our deep roots, culture, and identity. This day is annually observed worldwide to emphasize the importance of the mother language as a symbol of spiritual heritage and diversity.

The mother language is not just a means of communication; it reflects our beliefs, traditions, and history. Through it, we express our thoughts, feelings, and ideas, giving them shape and meaning.

International Mother Language Day reminds us of the significance of preserving and developing linguistic diversity globally, the necessity to care for our mother language to pass it on to future generations. This celebration encourages us to learn, respect, and use our mother language in all its beauty and richness.

In the Ukrainian language, the rich and complex historical path of our nation is reflected. Ukrainians have defended the right to freely communicate in their mother tongue. Today, we are again forced to defend and fight for our sacred language to resonate loudly in every corner of free Ukrainian land.

"As long as the language lives, so will the nation as a nationality... That is why language always holds such great weight in the national movement, why it is placed in the first honorary place among our main issues," declared Ivan Ohiienko.

May our mother language, nurtured by the words of writers, persecuted and prohibited but alive and indestructible, always be a source of our strength and unity!
