80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Ukraine from Fascist Occupiers
Every year on October 28, Ukraine marks the Day of Liberation from Nazi Occupiers. Today, we honor the Ukrainians who fought and defeated Nazism during World War II and express our gratitude to those whose efforts helped bring about the enemy's defeat and rebuild Ukraine from the ruins.
The de-occupation of Ukrainian territories during World War II ended on October 28, 1944, when the troops reached the modern western border of Ukraine. At the same time, historians from the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory note that on October 28, Soviet forces reached the outskirts of the city of Chop, where the fighting continued until November 25, when the Nazi occupiers were finally expelled from Ukraine.
Today, as we once again fight for our independence, the history of liberation serves as a source of inspiration for us. The past reminds us that the strength of a nation lies in unity, courage, and dedication to a common goal. We remember the heroism of those who defended Ukraine then and support those who protect it today. After all, independence is not only about the past; it is a daily struggle for the right to a future.
Karazin University honors the memory of the liberators and proudly continues its mission to educate new generations who will know the value of freedom and defend it wherever they may be. We remember the lessons of history and pay tribute to those who gave their lives for our future. Together, we are strong!
